About 36,000 people who are either sick or injured from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks have registered with the compensation fund so far. Others must register by this month’s deadline in order to be compensated.

The clock is ticking for first responders sickened by Sept. 11 debris to register for health benefits. Sick or injured first responders have until Oct. 3 to apply for compensation through the Zadroga Act.
