Statement by Benjamin Chevat, Executive Director of 911 Health Watch:
“First, it was a shame that the chaos at the CDC caused by HHS Secretary Kennedy over the last 18 months further delayed this decision that was supposed to have been released last March, slowing down the petition process.
While this decision is clearly disappointing to the many 9/11 responders and survivors that have cardiac conditions that believe their conditions are connected to their 9/11 experience, we need to remember that 15 years ago the initial decision was to deny adding cancer as a condition, which was subsequently added.
The Clinic Directors, who had filed the original petition to have Cardiovascular Conditions added, quickly responded to this denial in a letter to the program and will be engaging the administration in dialogue under the petition process that could still result in cardiac conditions eventually being added as covered condition by the program. “
