City Document Release: Home | Agreement | 2021-2026 | 2001-2020
On September 8th, 2026, we announced 911 Health Watch’s historic agreement with the City of New York and the Mamdani Administration to release the documents that the City has about what the City of New York knew about the dangers of the toxic chemicals covering lower Manhattan and Western Brooklyn and when did it know it that had been kept from the public for the past 25 years.
You can view the press conference with the Mayor here.
Here is portal that the City has created to release its records to the public.
Over the coming year as we work with the City to release more of their hidden documents, we expect to learn a lot more about what the City knew.
We will be posting here what we discover.
September 8, 2026, Press Conference
911 Health Watch’s Executive Director Benjamin Chevat said at the press conference with Mayor Mamdani:
I want to thank Mayor Mamdani for being the Mayor, after 25 years, who finally begins to answer the question, “What did the City know about the dangers from the toxic cloud at Ground Zero and when did it know it?”
I want to thank Steve Banks, who has changed the Law Department, getting it to do something revolutionary to resolve our lawsuit and comply with NY public records laws.
Through the agreement with 911 Health Watch, the City will make available to the public hundreds of thousands of pages of its records concerning September 11 air quality, risk assessments and messaging.
Here is the full prepared statement at the press conference by Benjamin Chevat.
